Keeping Hydrated during Pregnancy!

Keeping hydrated at any point in your life is important but I think its even more important to make sure that you are hydrated in Pregnancy. There is two of you after all!

During Pregnancy, the demand on your body gets greater. Since, there is a changing demand for the water, your body now needs more to cope with all the changes that are occuring in your body on a daily basis.

Water is essential for healthy blood cells, breast feeding and lactation. Did you know that water is one of the main ingredients in your breast milk! Water obviously help prevent you from becoming dyhydrated but during pregnancy if you are dyhyfrated it can cause complications for you and the baby. These include but are not limited too: headache, nausea, cramps, oedema and dizziness. It some cases it has been known to cause preterm labour!

You will need to drink between 8 and 10 cups or 3 litres per day to ensure that you are not dyhydrated. However, coffee and tea should not be classed as fluid per day as they actually take fluid away from the body because they make you wee more.

Personally, I find if I keep a bottle of water or squash by me thoughout the day and sip little and often. I tend to drink about 3 litres per day.
